Vogue Italia Tampilkan Sampul Kosong sebagai Reaksi terhadap Pandemi

KOMPAS.com - Majalah Vogue Italia edisi April 2020 menampilkan sampul depan yang mengundang pertanyaan bagi banyak orang.

Pasalnya, sampul depan majalah tersebut tidak menampilkan gambar apa pun, kecuali tulisan Vogue Italia di bagian atas, dengan latar belakang sampul yang seluruhnya berwarna putih.

Hal ini adalah tanggapan mereka terhadap pandemi Covid-19 yang menyebar di seluruh dunia.

White is for those who are filling this empty time and space with ideas, thoughts, stories, lines of verse, music and care for others. White recalls when, after the crisis of 1929, this immaculate colour was adopted for clothes as an expression of purity in the present, and of hope in the future. Emanuele Farneti, editor in chief Vogue Italia memberikan konfirmasi terkait sampul depan majalah di akun Instagram miliknya.

Menurutnya, meski mereka sudah memiliki beberapa karya untuk dijadikan sampul, hal itu ditangguhkan demi memberikan respons yang lebih tepat terhadap peristiwa terkini.

"Untuk berbicara tentang hal lain, ketika orang sekarat, dokter dan perawat mempertaruhkan hidup mereka dan dunia berubah selamanya, itu bukan DNA Vogue Italia," tulis Farneti dalam unggahannya.

Farneti mengatakan, sampul putih mewakili rasa hormat, kelahiran kembali, seragam petugas kesehatan yang bekerja mempertaruhkan nyawa mereka, serta halaman kosong untuk awal yang baru.

Seperti yang tersirat pada sampul Vogue Italia, industri fashion terdampak oleh pandemi Covid-19, dan banyak merek menghentikan produksi mereka untuk berfokus ke produksi masker dan alat pelindung.

Dilaporkan, ada penurunan tajam dalam pendapatan untuk beberapa perusahaan mewah ternama seperti LVMH.
